On Lake Martin you can fish for: Spotted bass, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Striped Bass, Hybrid Striper, Black Crappie, White Crappie, Bluegill, Longear Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Channel Catfish, Flathead Catfish, Blue Catfish, and Freshwater Drum. With the convenience of many public access areas and marinas, access to Lake Martin boating and fishing is no problem.

Lake Martin is very popular for Bass Fishing. The lake is dominated by spotted bass (more of these) and largemouth bass (less of these). Since the spotted bass school more in winter than during other seasons, Winter Bass Fishing is particularly popular in Lake Martin. The bass fishing is so exceptional that Lake Martin's Wind Creek State Park is part of the Alabama Bass Trail.

Lake Martin is not only about bass fishing, in fact, a state record white crappie was caught in April of 2000 from the main channel of the Tallapoosa around Alex City. You'll find the best Crappie Fishing in upstream areas of Lake Martin, particularly around Wind Creek State Park and in Elkahatchee Creek.
